Hamilton College meets 100% of the demonstrated financial need of every admitted student, including international students who request aid when they apply. International admission is need-aware, so an applicant’s ability to pay may affect the admission decision. For 2027 entry, first-year admission applications are due November 15, 2026 for Early Decision I and January 4, 2027 for Early Decision II or Regular Decision. Financial-aid materials follow separate deadlines: November 19, 2026 for ED I and January 15, 2027 for ED II and Regular Decision.

What does Hamilton financial aid cover?
Hamilton calculates demonstrated need as the cost of attendance minus the family contribution it determines from the applicant’s financial information. For admitted international students who applied for aid on time, Hamilton promises to meet that calculated need for all four years.
International aid packages most commonly combine a Hamilton College Scholarship with campus employment. The aid budget can account for direct billed costs and estimated indirect expenses such as books and travel. Hamilton’s general aid policy also allows loans in a package, so applicants should not describe the programme as a guaranteed “full ride” or assume that every personal expense will be paid entirely by grants.
Aid eligibility is reviewed annually and may change if family finances change. Students must submit renewal materials and meet the published deadlines each year.
Who is eligible?
- Students applying for first-year undergraduate admission to Hamilton College.
- International applicants of any citizenship who demonstrate financial need.
- Applicants who request financial aid when submitting the admission application.
- Students who complete the required CSS Profile, Certification of Finances and any requested supporting documentation by the applicable deadline.
Important: Hamilton is not need-blind for non-U.S. citizens. Financial need can be considered during admission. International students who do not request aid at admission, or who are found not to qualify then, cannot later receive Hamilton need-based aid during their four undergraduate years.

Required admission documents
Hamilton’s current first-year checklist requires:
- Common Application, Coalition Application through Scoir, or an eligible QuestBridge application;
- US$65 application fee or an approved fee waiver;
- official high-school transcript;
- school counsellor recommendation;
- one teacher recommendation;
- certified English translations when official documents are not in English.
Optional materials include a second teacher recommendation, SAT or ACT scores, a personal interview, the supplemental short answer, a 60-second Hamilton Hello video and an arts supplement where relevant.
Financial-aid documents for international students
- CSS Profile: required for international students seeking Hamilton need-based aid.
- Certification of Finances: required through the applicant portal for every international applicant, including applicants not requesting aid.
- IDOC documents: after the CSS Profile, College Board may request tax information or other supporting financial records through IDOC.
- Additional records: Hamilton may ask for clarification or missing material while reviewing the file.
FAFSA is listed for U.S. citizens and permanent residents, not as a requirement for international applicants.
English-language and testing requirements
SAT and ACT scores are optional. Most non-native English-speaking applicants must separately demonstrate English proficiency. Hamilton accepts TOEFL iBT, IELTS or the Duolingo English Test, as well as the TOEFL Home Edition.
Hamilton says it has no absolute English-test cutoff, but its published competitive levels are:
- TOEFL taken before January 2026: 100;
- TOEFL taken January 2026 or later: 5.0 minimum and 5.5 recommended under the updated scale;
- IELTS: 7.5;
- Duolingo English Test: 130.
Official scores must come from the testing agency or a high-school official; self-reported scores do not complete the requirement. Students whose secondary school uses English as the primary medium of instruction may satisfy the requirement through their studies, and a waiver-request form is available in the applicant portal.

Important points before applying
- Meeting 100% of demonstrated need means Hamilton covers the need it calculates, not necessarily every amount a family requests.
- International admission is competitive and need-aware.
- Aid can include campus employment and possibly loans; it is not automatically an all-grant full ride.
- International students must request aid during the admission process.
- Early Decision is binding if the student is admitted and the financial package is affordable.
- The financial-aid deadlines are later than the admission deadlines, but applicants should prepare CSS Profile and financial records early.
