Quick facts

  • Programme: Master of Intellectual Property and Data Law (MIPDaL)
  • Level: Joint master’s degree
  • Duration: One year
  • Mobility: Two universities in two European countries
  • Intake: 2027–28
  • Scholarship deadline: 15 January 2027
  • Deadline time: The official admission page does not state a cutoff hour or time zone for the scholarship deadline; submit well before the date.

What the scholarship covers

MIPDaL states that Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders pay no consortium tuition fees and no additional top-up fees charged by UK partner universities. They also receive funding toward monthly expenses such as accommodation and travel. The consortium can award up to 12 scholarships per year during its five-year funding period.

Who can apply?

  • Your two study countries must be different from your country of residence at enrolment.
  • You need a job-qualifying university degree worth at least 240 ECTS (normally a four-year law or law-related degree, or an equivalent combination such as a three-year bachelor’s plus a first master’s).
  • Current students may be assessed if they can document at least 80% of the credits required for the qualifying degree.
  • Your qualification should contain substantial law content and be comparable to at least a UK Upper Second Class degree.
  • Selection considers academic merit, motivation and geographic balance. The programme says scholarship competition is very strong and that successful candidates generally have First Class results and C1 English.

Language requirements

English-taught paths require C1 English, with exceptional B2+ cases; C1 is mandatory for Queen Mary University of London. French-track applicants normally need C1 French, while Spanish-track applicants need B2 Spanish. Only the certificates listed by MIPDaL are accepted, and a medium-of-instruction letter is not accepted as a substitute. Certain native speakers and degree holders from officially listed majority-language countries are exempt.

Required documents

  • Curriculum vitae (Europass format recommended)
  • Copy of identification card
  • University degree certificates
  • Officially certified transcript, including an official English translation
  • English certificate and, when relevant, French or Spanish certificate
  • Statement of purpose
  • Academic reference letter on institutional letterhead with a signature; applicants out of university for at least three years may submit a professional reference

How to apply

  1. Check that your degree, grades, mobility plan and language evidence meet the official criteria.
  2. Prepare certified records, translations, statement of purpose and signed reference letter.
  3. Create an account in the official MIPDaL application portal.
  4. Select the 2027/2028 MIPDaL Scholarship campaign and upload every required document.
  5. Review the complete application and submit it by 15 January 2027 for scholarship consideration.

Important: The application portal displays a general campaign closing time of 30 June 2027 at 23:59 Europe/Paris. That is not the Erasmus Mundus scholarship deadline. The official MIPDaL admission page requires a complete scholarship application by 15 January 2027; later dates apply to other or late admission routes.

Applicant tips

  • Choose a study pathway that clearly supports your intellectual-property and data-law goals.
  • Use the programme’s statement-of-purpose and reference templates, although MIPDaL says they are recommended rather than mandatory.
  • Do not rely on a medium-of-instruction letter if you are not covered by a stated exemption.
  • Upload legible certified documents and translations early enough to correct any problem before the deadline.

Frequently asked questions

Is MIPDaL fully funded?

For scholarship holders, consortium tuition and applicable UK top-up fees are waived, and support is provided for monthly expenses including accommodation and travel. The official MIPDaL page does not specify a monthly amount for this intake.

Can final-year students apply?

Yes, if they can document at least 80% of the credits for the qualifying degree. Any offer may be conditional on completing the degree by the date set by the programme.

Is an English medium-of-instruction letter accepted?

No. MIPDaL explicitly says MOI certificates are not accepted. Applicants must submit an accepted test unless they meet one of the programme’s listed exemptions.

Is there an application fee?

The official admission page reviewed for this guide does not state an application fee. Applicants should rely on the application portal for any transaction-specific notice and should not confuse tuition fees for self-funded students with an application fee.
