What the scholarship covers

The IMSISS consortium says scholarship recipients are not liable for tuition fees: the Erasmus Mundus award and consortium together cover them, including the deposit. The award includes full insurance, a monthly subsistence allowance across the two-year programme and an optional advance contribution for travel and installation expenses. The published payment choice is either €1,400 a month for 24 months without advance payments, or three €1,000 advances followed by €1,275 a month for 24 months. The advances are deducted from the same overall scholarship award; they are not extra money.

The consortium describes 50 regular and up to 20 additional region-targeted scholarships across four programme editions, not a guaranteed number for the 2027 cohort. Scholarships are competitive. The geographical balance rule limits regular awards to no more than six per nationality across the four editions; additional targeted awards follow separate regional rules.

Who is eligible?

The programme welcomes applicants from around the world with a strong UK 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent in a relevant field. The official examples include politics, international relations, history, peace studies, law, sociology, psychology, economics, media studies and related humanities or social sciences. The admissions team may consider relevant work experience alongside a lower GPA, but applicants should check their country-specific qualification equivalence.

  • For scholarship consideration, obtain a conditional or unconditional University of Glasgow offer; a status of “holding for documents” at the deadline does not qualify.
  • Applicants must not have received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarship before.
  • Pathway B at Trento requires an additional language other than English or Italian at CEFR B2; some degree backgrounds are excluded from that pathway.
  • English-language proof needed for scholarship consideration must be supplied by the scholarship deadline.

Documents to prepare

  • Completed IMSISS scholarship form, with study-track preference, uploaded as a PDF in the Glasgow application.
  • CV and personal statement of no more than 600 words.
  • Degree certificate and transcripts, with official English translations where applicable.
  • Two signed references dated within 24 months, on institutional letterhead or with an official stamp; at least one should be academic.
  • Proof of English-language proficiency and a colour scan of the passport photo page.
  • For Trento Pathway B, proof of the additional B2 language requirement.

The official application page gives detailed rules for references, including an institutional email route when headed paper or a stamp is unavailable. Read those rules before asking referees to prepare letters.

Deadline and selection

The scholarship deadline is 7 January 2027 at 13:00 UK time. In January the UK observes GMT (UTC+0), so the cutoff is 16:00 in Türkiye. This scholarship cutoff is different from later self-funded programme deadlines. The consortium expects scholarship results in April 2027. Its published scoring weighs the personal statement at 40%, academic merit at 30% and other relevant experience at 30%.

Practical applicant notes

Focus the statement on why the two-year programme fits your prior study, career direction and likely dissertation interests. The official guidance asks for a precise statement within 600 words. Do not wait for a conditional offer while documents remain outstanding: the scholarship page explicitly excludes applications still “holding for documents” at the deadline. Scholarship recipients do not need to pay a deposit to secure their place; applicants awaiting results are advised to wait for the April scholarship decision before paying.

Frequently asked questions

Is the IMSISS scholarship fully funded?

The official funding page says recipients owe no tuition, have full insurance and receive the monthly allowance described above. Travel and installation support can be taken as advances deducted from the total award.

Can applicants outside Europe apply?

Yes. The consortium says regular scholarships may be offered to students from any region, subject to eligibility and geographical balance rules.

Is the €3,000 travel payment additional?

No. The three €1,000 advance payments are deducted from the overall award, reducing the monthly amount from €1,400 to €1,275.

Can I apply without English-language evidence by the deadline?

For scholarship consideration, the official page requires the necessary documents, including English-language proof, by the scholarship deadline.
