ENS-PSL International Selection 2027: €1,000 Monthly

ENS-PSL International Selection 2027 is open until 15 December 2026 at 14:00 Paris time. Successful candidates receive €1,000 monthly for three years and access to a campus room. This guide focuses on the Sciences route; Arts and Humanities has different eligibility and documents.

Official sources checked 17 October 2026.

Funding: a substantial grant, not an all-expenses promise

The official FAQ specifies 36 monthly payments. Registration fees remain payable; their updated amount and room rent are not yet stated. Accommodation is not described as free. Confirm your own costs before accepting.

The route combines an ENS diploma with a master’s; some entrants begin in the final undergraduate year. It is not a PhD scholarship. The FAQ distinguishes the grant from a salary and says recipients do not become civil servants.

Budgeting guidance: Make two budgets: arrival costs before regular payments, and recurring monthly costs. Include travel, deposits, food and any confirmed fees. A room allocation is useful, but does not remove the need to understand the tenancy terms. Ask for written clarification where a cost is still unpublished.

Sciences eligibility

Under the 2027 competition rules, applicants must be under 26 when applications open, have completed one university year abroad and two by enrolment, have no previous International Selection application, and meet the limit of six months’ cumulative French school/higher-education enrolment across the competition academic year and preceding year.

Fit check: Write down your educational timeline before starting the application. Do not replace the French-enrolment rule with a general nationality assumption. If your academic route is unusual, obtain an eligibility answer from ENS rather than interpreting a possible exception as automatic permission.

Deadline and documents

The window opened 16 October 2026 at 14:00 Paris time. Apply through OnePSL30, not email. Prepare a CV, transcripts, a study-plan letter and two to four academic recommendations. The English page also lists a high-school diploma; follow the live portal’s complete checklist. ENS warns against iCloud addresses for candidates and referees.

Source caveat: Some English timetable rows incorrectly say 2027 for the application window; the prominent English dates, French schedule and submission instructions agree on December 2026. The French headline shortlist year also contains a typo. Confirm any disputed detail with ENS.

Apply in a controlled sequence

  1. Check the Sciences rules against your age and education history.
  2. Choose the single discipline that best matches your preparation.
  3. Prepare evidence and request references through the portal.
  4. Check every uploaded file and referee status before submitting.
  5. Retain confirmation and monitor test invitations.

Practical approach: Build a checklist with one row per item and a separate status for “requested”, “received” and “checked”. A file existing on your laptop is not evidence that the portal received it. Give referees a concise summary of the academic work they observed, not a prewritten endorsement to copy.

Selection and preparation

Sciences uses dossier screening followed by remote tests. The scientific oral carries weight 6 and the motivation/scientific-culture interview weight 3. Candidates may answer in French or English; departments set test details.

Our interpretation: Practise explaining how you reach an answer, including a failed approach and the assumption that failed. For a paper discussion, separate the question, method, result and limitation. If you do not know something, explain what evidence you would seek next instead of filling the gap with confident speculation.

Choose a study plan that connects prior preparation to a question you want to investigate. A persuasive plan can be specific without promising a breakthrough. Show why the next courses or research experiences are necessary, and what would make you revise the plan. This is more informative than listing institutional prestige.

Frequently asked questions

Is the room free?

Do not assume so: the FAQ refers to rent with its amount still to be announced.

Can Arts applicants use this Sciences checklist?

No. Use the separate official Arts and Humanities requirements.

Does submitting a dossier secure funding?

No. This is competitive selection, not a first-come award.

Should I submit close to the cutoff?

Allow time to resolve upload and reference problems. Use the official Paris-time deadline, not a date-only reminder.
