GLOCAL Scholarship 2027–2029: key facts

|---|---|
| Level and duration | Two-year, full-time international master’s; 120 ECTS |
| Start | September 2027 |

The programme explores global capitalism, business and economic change in local settings. Its partner network offers different mobility routes rather than one identical itinerary for every student.
Funding: understand the two payment choices
The official scholarship page confirms tuition coverage, including the deposit, through the scholarship and consortium, plus insurance. Students choose one payment arrangement:
| Choice | Published payment structure |
|---|---|
| Monthly only | €1,400 per month over two years, without a separate travel/installation payment |
| Advances and monthly payments | €1,275 monthly plus three €1,000 advances: August before entry, May at the end of Year 1, and September at the start of Year 2 |
Our calculation: both arrangements total €33,600 across 24 months. The advances are deducted from the award; they are not an extra €3,000. Choose based on cash flow, after checking the award agreement and timing of your housing, visa and travel costs. A larger early payment may help with setup expenses, but a lower regular payment still needs to support your monthly budget.
Eligibility and choosing the right study track
The published academic threshold is a UK 2:1 honours degree or its international equivalent, with country-specific grade requirements. English-language requirements also apply. Consult the official entry requirements and linked Glasgow guidance for your qualification.
The programme overview lists broad backgrounds across business, economics, history, social sciences, humanities and related subjects, including sustainability and urban studies. Tracks B, F and I have an additional requirement for at least a quarter of prior studies, or 60 ECTS, in specified business, economics, history, sociology or politics subjects. All teaching is in English.
Scholarship applicants must not have previously received an EMJM scholarship. The funding page also says an application still “holding for documents” at the deadline is not considered for funding.
Applicant-fit guidance: choose the route that develops a coherent question from your existing experience. A business applicant could connect firm strategy to local economic change; a history applicant might investigate how institutions shaped a region’s development. These are examples for planning your statement, not official project topics. Compare each route’s courses and mobility demands before committing.
Documents to prepare
The application checklist requires the scholarship application form, CV, two references, university transcripts and certificates, English evidence, and a colour passport photo-page scan. Provide original-language academic records and official English translations where applicable.
References need an appropriate institutional identity, signature and recent date; at least one should be academic. Check the detailed rules before requesting them. The supporting personal statement has a 1,200-word maximum. English evidence must be supplied by the scholarship deadline.
Practical document check: create a tracker with the document, issuer, expected arrival date and upload status. Check reference letterhead, signature and official email details before the final week. A letter that praises you but fails a formal requirement can still create an avoidable application problem.
How to apply
- Compare the study tracks. Match your academic background with the published route requirements.
- Prepare the scholarship form. Use the current version linked by GLOCAL, rather than the self-funding form.
- Apply through Glasgow’s online system. Follow the Apply Now link on the official programme application page and upload the required materials.
- Review the funding selection. The FAQ recommends “Other” with “Erasmus Mundus Scholarship” in the additional-information box.
- Submit a complete file early. Allow time to resolve missing or unsuitable documents before the deadline.
The official FAQ confirms one online application serves programme admission and scholarship consideration, although Glasgow admissions and the consortium handle those assessments separately. Final-year first-degree students may apply with their latest transcript, subject to supplying the final result before an unconditional offer.
Selection criteria and a stronger personal statement
The scholarship page publishes these weights:
| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Personal statement | 40% |
| Academic merit | 30% |
| References | 10% |
| Other relevant research or professional experience | 20% |
Our interpretation: the statement deserves substantial preparation, but it should be supported by evidence throughout the file. Explain why the selected route fits your previous work, which skills you need next and what you might investigate in a dissertation. Use a concrete example of analysis, research or responsibility instead of repeating broad claims about being passionate about international study.
For career changers, explain the intellectual link between your work and the programme. For applicants with limited professional experience, reflect on academic projects or relevant activities without exaggerating their scale. Give referees enough context to describe your preparation in specific terms.
FAQs
Are travel advances extra scholarship money?
No. They change when part of the award is paid. Compare cash flow rather than adding them to the monthly-only total.
Can I apply for several tracks?
Only one. Check the route requirements carefully.
Is there an age limit?
The programme FAQ says there is no age limit.
Why does the homepage also say the scholarship deadline passed?
That note conflicts with the current 2027–2029 open-call banner, application page, funding page and FAQ. Those current pages consistently confirm the new round. The inconsistency is preserved here rather than silently ignored.
What time is the deadline in Türkiye?
13:00 GMT on 14 January 2027 is 16:00 Türkiye time (our conversion). Do not confuse the scholarship deadline with later self-funded deadlines.
