France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship 2027: Master’s and PhD

France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship 2027 nominations are open through French higher-education institutions—not direct student applications. Published monthly allowances are €1,200 for master’s and €2,000 for doctorate. Your university can require a complete file well before the nationally listed early-January institutional deadline.

Official 2027 documents checked 18 October 2026. This is a national guide: confirm the specific host’s current procedure.

What does Eiffel fund?

The 2027 regulations, updated September 2026, confirm these allowances from January 2026, alongside transport, insurance and other services under their conditions. Eiffel does not itself pay training fees. Registration-fee exemption applies to qualifying national/engineering degrees at specified French public institutions; outside those cases, registration fees are not covered.

Budgeting advice: Ask your host for a written cost breakdown separating registration, programme/training fees, housing and arrival expenses. “French government scholarship” does not mean every invoice disappears. Do not subtract a hoped-for waiver from your budget until the institution confirms that it applies to your exact qualification.

Duration and eligibility

The 2027 institution guide provides up to 12 months for M2, 24 for M1 and 36 for engineering. Doctoral routes are 12, 18 or 36 months. The 36-month route is for first-year newcomers without current French enrolment and cannot involve cotutelle; shorter routes have different conditions.

Applicants must be foreign nationals without French dual nationality. The guide gives birth cutoffs after 31 March 1997 for master’s and after 31 March 1991 for doctorate. Master’s applicants already studying in France are ineligible. Previous Eiffel applications/awards and other French public scholarships require careful checking against the level-specific rules.

Fit guidance: Start with the degree and research plan, not the stipend. For doctoral applicants, determine whether you need a whole-thesis route or a period of international mobility. These are different academic arrangements. A host willing to discuss your topic is not yet confirmation that it will nominate you.

Deadlines: the university date controls your preparation

Indexed official Campus France call pages disagree between 6 and 8 January 2027 for institutional submission. We could not resolve that inconsistency from the accessible national pages. Ask your nominating institution to confirm its national cutoff; neither date is a universal student deadline.

For example, Lille’s EG ENGSYS doctoral call, published 14 October 2026, requests proposals before noon on 16 November 2026. The page does not explicitly label the time zone. That is a school-specific internal route, not a deadline for every Lille applicant. It emphasises excellent academic records, internal ranking and structured partnerships.

Paris-Panthéon-Assas has opened its institution-specific application window for 19 October–5 November 2026. Host procedures and subject coverage differ. Ask the relevant international office or doctoral school for the current checklist.

Documents and application steps

Prepare identity evidence, CV, diplomas/ranking, recent transcripts, language evidence where required, a professional project and the signed candidate declaration. Doctoral files additionally require a thesis project, external expert assessment/CV, overall financing plan and relevant supervision agreements. The institution guide and host checklist control exact formats and restrictions.

  1. Identify an eligible French degree or doctoral host.
  2. Ask whether the institution will support an Eiffel nomination and when its internal file is due.
  3. Check age, prior applications, nationality, study-location and funding compatibility.
  4. Prepare both academic-admission and scholarship requirements.
  5. Coordinate the complete file with one nominating institution and obtain confirmation of submission.

Only French institutions submit to Campus France. Nomination by more than one institution causes rejection.

Practical safeguard: Keep a nomination log: institution contacted, admission stage, internal deadline and whether it has agreed to submit. If you change hosts, resolve the first nomination explicitly. Contacting several universities for information is not the same as authorising multiple nominations.

Selection: make academic excellence specific

Applicant preparation: Show evidence behind your claims: class rank in context, a demanding project, your own contribution and the question your next training would let you answer. For research, distinguish a broad theme from a feasible study. Explain the data or material, the approach, the main risk and a realistic alternative.

Discuss the programme’s fit with your professional direction without promising outcomes you cannot control. Ask your host how it evaluates nominees internally. Institutional support is an essential stage, but it is not the national award decision.
