Applications are now open for the Erasmus Mundus PlantHealth 2027–2029 intake. This two-year, 120-ECTS joint master’s programme trains specialists in sustainable crop protection across leading European universities. Candidates who submit a complete application in the first call are considered for an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarship covering participation costs and providing €1,400 per month for up to 24 months.

EMJM PlantHealth
Joint Master’s, 120 ECTS
Fees + €1,400/month
31 December 2026 (CET)
What the Erasmus Mundus PlantHealth scholarship covers
The official PlantHealth funding page states that the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees, full insurance and mandatory academic costs. Scholarship holders also receive a €1,400 monthly stipend for up to 24 months. The stipend is intended to support travel, visa, installation and living expenses.
- Full participation and tuition costs
- Full insurance and mandatory academic costs
- €1,400 per month for a maximum of 24 months
- Support intended for living, travel, visa and installation expenses
The scholarship is competitive, so admission to the programme does not automatically guarantee funding. Outstanding applicants who do not receive an EMJM award may be considered for a PlantHealth Consortium fee waiver, subject to availability; that waiver does not cover living or travel expenses.
Who can apply?
Applicants from EU and non-EU countries may apply. To meet the programme’s published admission requirements, candidates should have:
- A Bachelor of Science degree worth at least 180 ECTS in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences or a related field.
- At least 4 ECTS in Plant Health, Crop Protection or an equivalent subject.
- English proficiency at CEFR B2, unless English is the applicant’s native language.
- A complete application including two recommendation letters using the official PlantHealth template.
Final-year bachelor’s students may apply, but they must complete the degree before enrolment. Applicants who previously received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarship are not eligible for another EMJM scholarship, and EU double funding is not permitted.
English-language requirement
Non-native English speakers must provide B2-level proof. The programme lists recognised examinations such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge English, Trinity ISE, ESOL, Oxford Test of English and Pearson PTE. A university letter confirming that the entire bachelor’s degree was taught in English may be accepted, although the programme notes that a formal language certificate can strengthen an application. Candidates assigned to a French second-year pathway may also need B2 French before beginning that year.
Required documents
Prepare the following materials for the online application:
- Curriculum vitae; Europass format is recommended but not compulsory
- Official bachelor’s degree certificate, or final-year status documentation where applicable
- Complete official academic transcript
- Proof of B2 English or an accepted English-medium-of-instruction letter
- Two recommendation letters using the official template, with referee details, signature and institutional stamp
- Declaration on honour using the portal template
- Any relevant supporting evidence, such as publications or documented special circumstances
Documents should be completed or translated into English as instructed in the portal. Legalisation or apostille is generally requested only later if a selected candidate needs it for enrolment.
How to apply
- Check your academic background. Confirm that your degree and transcript demonstrate the required agricultural-science foundation and plant-health or crop-protection credits.
- Create a new account. Register in the official PlantHealth online application system with a working email address.
- Complete the form in English. Enter your education, motivation and preferred mobility pathway carefully.
- Upload every required document. Use the official recommendation-letter and declaration templates provided in the portal.
- Review the scholarship conditions. Confirm that you are eligible for EMJM funding and are not receiving incompatible EU support.
- Submit before the deadline. The portal sends an automatic confirmation email after a successful submission.
Application deadline
The scholarship-eligible first call runs from 1 October to 31 December 2026. The official calendar specifies that the online application must be submitted before 1 January 2027 at 00:00 CET. In practical terms, applicants should finish no later than 31 December 2026 CET and avoid waiting for the final hours.
A second application round is scheduled for 20 May to 15 June 2027, but that round is only for self-funded candidates or candidates with external funding; Erasmus Mundus scholarships are not offered in the second round.
How candidates are selected
The official selection procedure uses the following weighting:
- Academic record and merits: 60%
- Reference letters: 20%
- Personal motivation: 20%
The programme also considers equal opportunity and gender balance. It states that 80% of scholarships are allocated to the best-evaluated candidates with regional distribution considered where quality is assured. The remaining 20% may support high-scoring applicants facing greater vulnerability and help promote gender balance.
Practical tips for a stronger application
- Make the plant-health content of your transcript easy to identify; do not assume evaluators will infer equivalence from a vague course title.
- Ask referees early and give them the official template and formatting requirements.
- Connect your motivation to sustainable crop protection, food security and the programme’s international mobility model.
- Use official documents with institutional seals, stamps or other security features.
- Upload clear English translations where required and verify every file before final submission.
