What does the Wien Scholarship cover?

The Wien Scholarship meets 100% of Brandeis’s calculation of the recipient’s demonstrated financial need. Brandeis’s international financial-aid guidance describes a full scholarship covering tuition, housing, food and U.S. health insurance. The award may be renewed for up to eight semesters of undergraduate study, provided the recipient continues to satisfy the university’s academic and administrative conditions.

This is not a fixed cash award. Brandeis reviews the family’s financial documents and determines demonstrated need. The final package therefore depends on the university’s assessment of the applicant’s financial circumstances.

Who is eligible?

The Wien Scholarship is intended for international first-year applicants with strong academic achievement and significant extracurricular or community involvement. Applicants should be entering Brandeis as full-time undergraduates and must complete both admission and financial-aid requirements on time.

International students seeking Brandeis grant or scholarship assistance must indicate their intent to apply for financial aid before admission. Brandeis warns that students cannot request institutional scholarship consideration for the current or future years after receiving an admission decision if they did not apply for aid during the original admission process.

Required application materials

Admission documents

  • Common Application or Coalition Application
  • Official secondary-school transcript covering all years of study
  • School report and recommendation from a secondary-school official
  • Teacher recommendation from a core academic subject
  • Senior-year grades when required for the selected admission plan

Financial-aid documents

International applicants should follow the current instructions in their portal because Brandeis may request different supporting documents depending on the family’s country and financial circumstances.

English-language and standardized tests

Brandeis is test-optional for SAT and ACT, including scholarship consideration. International applicants whose native language is not English should submit an accepted English-proficiency result: TOEFL iBT, IELTS, Duolingo English Test or Cambridge English C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency. Applicants who completed at least four years of a full academic curriculum taught in English may request a waiver through the DEISconnect portal after applying.
