Wesleyan University offers need-based financial aid to international first-year applicants from every country and meets 100% of each admitted aid recipient’s demonstrated need. Its undergraduate packages do not include loans, although they may include a work-study contribution. International applicants who need aid should apply through Regular Decision by January 1 and submit their aid application by January 15; Wesleyan does not consider international aid applicants in Early Decision.

What does Wesleyan financial aid cover?
Wesleyan calculates demonstrated need by comparing its total cost of attendance with the family contribution it determines from submitted financial information. The university says its need-based package covers 100% of the remaining tuition, housing, books, supplies and personal expenses.
Undergraduate packages are loan-free. They can, however, include campus employment: Wesleyan currently identifies a US$2,750 work-study component in need-based packages. The exact grant and work allocation varies by household, so this is not a single fixed-value scholarship or an automatic full ride for every admitted student.
International admission with aid is highly selective. Wesleyan states that applicants from every country may be considered, but international students must request financial aid when applying for admission to receive it during their undergraduate years.
Special full-scholarship pathways
International aid applicants may also be considered for two regional programmes that provide full scholarships for four years:
- Wesleyan African Scholars Program: for citizens or permanent residents of any of Africa’s 54 countries.
- Freeman Asian Scholars Program: for citizens or permanent residents of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
These programmes use the university’s admission and aid process; applicants should follow the official country and programme conditions rather than assuming eligibility solely from residence.
Who should apply?
The opportunity is intended for students applying for first-year undergraduate admission who need institutional financial assistance. Applicants must hold a secondary-school diploma or recognized equivalent by enrollment. International students requiring aid should use Regular Decision because Wesleyan does not consider this group for admission in Early Decision; a competitive international aid applicant who applies Early Decision may be deferred to Regular Decision.
International transfer applicants should not use this guide: Wesleyan’s published transfer policy states that institutional financial aid is unavailable to international transfer applicants.
Required admission documents
A standard first-year application includes:
- Completed Common Application or Coalition Application via Scoir, including Wesleyan-specific questions
- Secondary School Report
- Official transcript listing courses in progress
- Counselor recommendation
- Mid-year grade report when available
- Two academic teacher evaluations
- US$65 fee or fee waiver
- Certified English translations alongside documents not issued in English
Wesleyan encourages one teacher evaluation from humanities, social sciences or a foreign language and another from mathematics or science. Supplementary creative materials in music, theatre, visual arts, film or dance are optional and must be submitted through SlideRoom.
Financial-aid documents
International applicants normally submit the CSS Profile. Wesleyan’s institutional CSS code is 3959. If the CSS Profile is unavailable in the applicant’s country or its cost is a financial barrier, the university permits the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA). A separate form is required for a noncustodial parent when applicable.
Wesleyan may request documents verifying family income after reviewing the aid application. Aid applicants do not submit the International Student Certification of Finances at the admission stage; that form is for international applicants who are not seeking financial aid. Admitted aid recipients may later need to document resources for any costs not covered by the award.
Testing and English requirements
Wesleyan is test-optional for most first-year applicants, so SAT or ACT results are not generally required. Students following international examination curricula—including A Levels, the International Baccalaureate, French Baccalaureate, ISC and WASSCE—must provide actual or predicted curriculum examination results through their school.
English-proficiency testing is optional but strongly recommended for applicants whose first language is not English. Wesleyan may request test results from an individual applicant if it needs more evidence to reach an admission decision. Applicants may also use SAT or ACT results as evidence of English proficiency if they select those scores for consideration in the application.
Deadlines for 2027 entry
Wesleyan’s current first-year page lists the following dates. The page does not state a cutoff time or time zone, so submit early rather than assuming an 11:59 p.m. deadline.
- Regular Decision application: January 1
- Regular Decision financial aid: January 15
- Early Decision I: November 15
- Early Decision II: January 1
Important: International citizens requesting financial aid are not considered for admission through Early Decision. They should follow the Regular Decision route. The year is not printed beside these dates on the current official table, so applicants should confirm the live page immediately before submission.
How to apply
- Confirm first-year eligibility. International transfer applicants cannot receive Wesleyan institutional aid.
- Select Regular Decision. This is the relevant route for international applicants seeking financial aid.
- Prepare school records. Arrange the transcript, School Report, counselor recommendation, mid-year grades and two teacher evaluations.
- Translate documents. Provide certified English translations together with the original-language documents.
- Submit the Common Application or Coalition Application. Complete all Wesleyan member questions and indicate that you are applying for financial aid.
- Use the fee waiver. Wesleyan waives its US$65 application fee for all financial-aid applicants.
- Submit the CSS Profile or ISFAA. Use the ISFAA when the CSS Profile is unavailable or unaffordable.
- Monitor WesCheck. After applying, use the applicant portal to track missing credentials and the eventual decision.
Application advice
- Request aid when submitting the admission application; do not wait until after admission.
- Use Regular Decision if you are an international citizen seeking financial aid.
- Begin the CSS Profile early because Wesleyan notes that electronic processing can take several business days.
- Use the ISFAA when the CSS Profile fee or availability creates a genuine barrier.
- Keep income documents and certified translations ready in case the aid office requests verification.
- Do not describe the award as merit-based; Wesleyan’s general international funding is based on calculated financial need.
