Answer first: Sewanee’s Global Scholarships cover tuition, room, board and university fees for four consecutive years for selected international students. The University of the South says it awards seven each year. Applicants need a strong academic profile and high financial need, and must apply for need-based aid to be considered. The free Common Application is open; the first admission round closes on November 15, 2026. Other admission rounds remain available through February 1, 2027. There is no separate Global Scholarship application, but the CSS Profile is required for need-based aid.

What does the Global Scholarship pay for?
The award covers Sewanee’s direct charges for tuition, room, board and university fees over four consecutive years of study. Sewanee’s official international-aid page says international students should budget approximately US$5,000 for first-year indirect costs such as books, health insurance, personal spending, visa and SEVIS fees, travel, possible tax, and classes with additional fees. Those costs are outside the Global Scholarship’s stated coverage. Before the I-20 is issued, an admitted student must show the ability to pay the first-year account balance and indirect costs.
Who can apply?
- International applicants who are not U.S. citizens and are seeking admission to the University of the South.
- Applicants with a strong academic profile and demonstrated high financial need.
- First-year applicants receive priority; Sewanee says fall transfer applicants are also considered.
- Applicants must request need-based financial aid during admission and submit the required financial information. Choosing not to apply for aid rules out consideration for this need-based award.
The Global Scholarship is competitive: Sewanee states that it makes seven awards each year. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee admission or funding.
Admission deadlines for 2027 entry
The deadline depends on the admission round. Sewanee’s international applicant checklist gives the following Common Application and supporting-material dates. The official pages do not state a cutoff time or time zone; confirm any portal time display before submitting.
| Round | Common Application | Supporting documents |
|---|---|---|
| Early Decision I | November 15, 2026 | November 19, 2026 |
| Early Action | December 1, 2026 | December 6, 2026 |
| Early Decision II | January 15, 2027 | January 21, 2027 |
| Regular Decision | February 1, 2027 | February 8, 2027 |
Sewanee’s general timeline says applicants in every admission round can receive scholarship consideration if requirements are submitted on time. Because its general timeline and international checklist show different supporting-material dates for some rounds, international applicants should follow their personal Applicant Status Page and seek clarification from the admission office. Submit the CSS Profile promptly for priority aid consideration.
Documents, tests and fees
- Free Common Application; Sewanee confirms there is no admission application fee.
- Official high-school transcript and school profile in English, submitted by the school counselor.
- Recommendation letters in English; Sewanee prefers one core teacher and one counselor or principal recommendation.
- Financial Plan Form on the Applicant Status Page and the CSS Profile for need-based aid. Sewanee’s CSS code is 1842. The university says it does not offer CSS Profile fee waivers or accept substitute documents.
- English proficiency results or an approved waiver. Sewanee recommends Duolingo 115+, IELTS 7.0+ or TOEFL iBT 95+. Results older than two years are not accepted. The official English proficiency page explains how to request a waiver.
- SAT/ACT scores are optional for admission. Early Decision applicants also submit the Early Decision agreement.
The English proficiency requirement is separate from Sewanee’s optional SAT/ACT policy. Check the Applicant Status Page for the exact outstanding items after applying.
