Applications are open for the Radboud Scholarship Programme 2027/28 in the Netherlands. This selective award reduces tuition for eligible non-EU/non-EEA students to an expected €2,771 and covers visa, residence-permit, health-insurance and liability-insurance costs. It does not cover living expenses. The application deadline is 31 January 2027 at 23:59 CET.

What does the Radboud Scholarship cover?
For 2027/28, the scholarship reduces the recipient’s tuition fee to €2,771, although Radboud marks this amount as subject to confirmation. The university gives €19,000 as an example regular fee; actual tuition varies by programme. The award also covers the costs of a Dutch visa, residence permit, health insurance and liability insurance.
This is a partial scholarship. Accommodation, food, travel and other living or study expenses are not included. Applicants should budget for the remaining tuition and Nijmegen living costs rather than treating the tuition reduction as full funding.
Who can apply?
- You must hold a non-EU/non-EEA passport and must not qualify for the lower statutory tuition rate for another reason.
- Your Bachelor’s degree must have been or be obtained outside the Netherlands.
- You must not hold a Dutch degree or have completed previous education in the Netherlands, except an eligible exchange forming part of an overseas Bachelor’s.
- You must meet the chosen Master’s academic and English-language requirements.
- You must be admitted to a full-time English-taught Master’s starting on 1 September 2027.
- You must meet Dutch visa requirements and enrol at Radboud for the relevant programme and academic year.
Most English-taught Master’s programmes are eligible, but Erasmus Mundus and joint-degree programmes are excluded.
Available scholarships by faculty
Radboud lists a maximum of 26 awards for 2027/28: Arts (2), Law (2), Nijmegen School of Management (5), Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies (1), Science (9), and Social Sciences (7). Because faculty allocations differ, competition and programme fit can matter as much as a strong general profile.
Documents required
The scholarship request is integrated into the OSIRIS Master’s application. In addition to the admission materials required by the programme, scholarship applicants upload:
- a current curriculum vitae;
- two reference letters, preferably academic and following Radboud’s reference guidance;
- the Master’s motivation letter and supporting admission records requested in OSIRIS;
- proof of English proficiency when required;
- identity, degree and transcript documents required for admission.
Radboud may return an application for payment of the handling fee or correction of missing, illegible or incorrect material. Submission by 31 January is therefore not the final quality-control point: the file must be complete by 14 February 2027 at 23:59 CET.
How to apply for the Radboud Scholarship 2027/28
- Select an eligible Master’s. Check the programme’s academic background and English requirements.
- Apply through OSIRIS. In the admission application, indicate that you want to apply for a Radboud Scholarship.
- Upload the scholarship documents. Add the CV and two reference letters, even if similar documents were already used for admission.
- Submit by 31 January. The official cutoff is 23:59 Central European Time.
- Respond to file checks. Pay the handling fee and correct any returned items promptly so the application is complete by 14 February at 23:59 CET.
- Monitor the decision. Radboud expects to communicate the final scholarship decision before mid-April 2027, although that timing may change.
Selection criteria
Selection is separate from Master’s admission. The university evaluates:
- academic excellence: grades, test scores, publications, degree relevance and the standing of the previous institution;
- ambition: motivation-letter quality, relevant achievements, work, internships, volunteering and other experience;
- references: the specificity and strength of two recommendations;
- faculty assessment: faculties may add criteria or hold interviews.
Financial need is not listed as a selection criterion. Admission alone does not imply a scholarship award.
Practical applicant-fit guidance
ScholarshipHubNow’s interpretation: this award is best suited to a non-EEA applicant with excellent grades and a clear progression from previous study into one specific Radboud Master’s. A persuasive motivation letter should connect prior evidence, the programme’s curriculum and a realistic post-degree objective rather than relying on rankings or generic enthusiasm.
Use the CV to surface evidence the committee can compare: class rank where officially available, competitive awards, research outputs, technically relevant employment and leadership with measurable results. Ask referees to address academic readiness and future potential with examples rather than repeating your CV.
Before applying, build a funding gap calculation. Include the expected €2,771 tuition contribution, accommodation, insurance not covered by the scheme, food, travel and arrival costs. If that remaining budget is not workable, apply simultaneously for compatible support such as the NL Scholarship; Radboud states that the two awards may be combined.
