How to apply

  1. Check the official 2027–28 Brightlands programme list.
  2. Complete the master’s application via Studielink by 10 December 2026, including required admission evidence and any handling fee.
  3. Use the UM account to open the separate scholarship form from the official source below.
  4. Prepare the requested CV, motivation materials, academic proof, financial-needs evidence and referee information; follow the current form’s document specifications.
  5. Review and submit once before the scholarship deadline. UM does not allow later replacement of documents.

Deadline and selection

The scholarship deadline is 1 February 2027, 23:59 CET. Selection includes faculty assessment and an interview with the Brightlands committee. Recipients undertake a mandatory thesis internship for a company on the relevant campus and attend pre-academic training.

Should you choose Brightlands or NL-High Potential?

Choose by academic fit rather than by the headline funding amount. Brightlands requires a credible interest in applied research and the company-linked thesis environment. Before drafting, write a short explanation of the problem you want to investigate, the skills you already bring and the skills the degree would add.

Use one concrete project as evidence: state the question, your own contribution, the result and what you learned. Avoid proposing access to a specific company or laboratory unless it has been confirmed. The scheme is highly selective, so preserve other applications and a realistic backup plan.

UM limits applicants to one scholarship application. Read both official schemes carefully before making that choice; do not assume two parallel applications improve your chances.
