Stanford Financial Aid 2027 | Full Need Met

Answer first: Stanford University offers need-based undergraduate financial aid to admitted students of every citizenship and states that it meets their full demonstrated financial need. International citizens are eligible, but Stanford is need-aware for this group: requesting aid is considered during admission and makes selection more competitive. For fall 2027 entry, submit the Common Application by 1 November 2026 for Restrictive Early Action or 5 January 2027 for Regular Decision, no later than 11:59 p.m. in your local time.

What does Stanford financial aid cover?

Stanford calculates aid from the family’s demonstrated financial need rather than awarding a fixed scholarship amount. Its official international-applicant guidance says full need is met for admitted students regardless of citizenship when they requested financial aid during the application process.

This is not an automatic full scholarship for every applicant. The award depends on Stanford’s institutional assessment of the family’s finances. International applicants should also understand that an aid request is a factor in admission.

Who can apply?

International citizens applying for a first bachelor’s degree may request aid. Applicants must hold a secondary-school diploma or their country’s equivalent by enrollment. A student who has enrolled in a degree-granting program after secondary school and received credit generally must apply as a transfer applicant instead.

Important: An international citizen who states that they will not seek aid and is then admitted cannot apply for Stanford need-based aid later during the four undergraduate years, unless their citizenship status changes in a way that makes them eligible under Stanford’s stated policy.

Admission documents

  • Common Application
  • US$100 fee or fee-waiver request
  • ACT or SAT scores
  • School Report and counselor recommendation
  • Official transcript or academic results
  • Midyear transcript, due 15 February
  • Two academic teacher recommendations
  • Any financial-aid forms Stanford lists for the applicant’s citizenship and decision plan

Official academic records and recommendations not written in English must include an English translation. Stanford requires both the original and translated documents when applicable, and applicants may not translate their own materials.

Tests, English proficiency and application fee

Stanford requires either the ACT or SAT for first-year applicants. The undergraduate application fee is US$100, but applicants may request a fee waiver.

Stanford does not require an English-proficiency examination. Applicants may self-report English-test results if they wish. Stanford nevertheless states that English fluency is a prerequisite for admission.
