Eligibility and fields
Applicants must be female candidates from an IAEA Member State and accepted by or enrolled in an accredited university master’s programme in a nuclear-related field. IAEA gives preference to applicants with above-average academic credentials, described as 75% or above or a GPA greater than 3.0/4.0. Its examples include nuclear engineering, physics and chemistry, nuclear medicine, isotopic techniques, radiation biology, nuclear safety and security, non-proliferation, and nuclear law. Related programmes may also qualify; compare your course with the IAEA’s own field guidance.
This fellowship is for a defined group. It is not open to all master’s applicants, and acceptance at a university is a required part of the application.
Funding and practical conditions
Selected fellows may receive up to €20,000 toward tuition and up to €20,000 toward living costs for their master’s programme. These are ceilings, not a guaranteed €40,000 payment to every fellow. Applicants must declare other scholarships and provide documentation; the IAEA says overlapping support can reduce its award so that it covers tuition only, rather than living costs. An offer sets out the final amount and payment arrangements. The award is conditional on fulfilling the master’s programme and fellowship requirements.
Documents to prepare
- Completed online application form and a copy of a passport or national ID.
- Official university acceptance or admission letter stating the nuclear-related master’s field and programme duration.
- Statement or confirmation of tuition fees.
- Documents for any other scholarships supporting the same master’s programme, if applicable.
- IAEA reference template completed by referees and sent directly to MSCFP@iaea.org by the deadline. One reference is mandatory; a second is preferred.
All application documents must be in English. Provide official English translations for documents originally issued in another language. Incomplete applications are not considered.

Is the award automatically €40,000?
No. The IAEA states separate maximums of €20,000 for tuition and €20,000 for living costs. The actual offer can be lower, including when a student has another scholarship.
