What the funding does—and does not—mean

The official funding page confirms the package above. Previous recipients of an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarship cannot receive another EMJM scholarship. Awards are limited and available only through the first application campaign. The consortium warns that fewer than 1% of applicants receive a scholarship; this is its published warning, not a prediction of any individual’s chances.

Applicant guidance: Do not interpret “up to” as an unconditional payment promise or assume separate airfare reimbursement. Plan for upfront expenses and check the award agreement before making financial commitments. A self-funded admission offer is not a scholarship.

Eligibility and documents

Applicants may come from any academic discipline, but must meet the language rules of their selected pathway. For first-year study in Dublin or Sheffield, the published IELTS requirement is 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each component; other tests and pathway-specific requirements are listed on the admission page. Do not assume that an English-medium degree automatically gives an exemption.

Prepare identification, a CV, a motivation letter in English of no more than 600 words, degree certificates, transcripts, relevant certified translations, language evidence and recent proof of residence. Liège applicants need additional records. Consult the current official checklist for certification and pathway details.

Practical check: Resolve the language requirement before polishing essays. Missing the required evidence can prevent assessment, regardless of academic strength. Compare names and dates across your passport, transcript and translations.

How to apply

  1. Read the admission requirements and the “Instructions for 2027 applicants” linked on the official platform.
  2. Choose a study pathway that fits your background, language evidence and public-health goals.
  3. Create an account on the official application platform and select the 2027–2029 programme-and-scholarship campaign, not the self-funded campaign.
  4. Complete the English-language application, upload the required evidence and submit before the scholarship cutoff.
  5. Save your application identifier and confirmation; monitor email for further instructions.

Selection and applicant fit

The selection procedure considers academic achievement, programme motivation, relevant experience, international outlook and personal capabilities. Top-ranked scholarship candidates are due to attend an online interview on 18 February 2027, with outcomes expected in mid-March.

Our interpretation: This is a strong fit for applicants who can connect a public-health problem to a particular specialisation and a realistic career plan. Clinical experience alone does not explain why you need training in population health. A convincing application identifies what you observed, what evidence or analytical skills you lack, and how the chosen pathway would help you act on the problem.

For example, an applicant interested in environmental health could connect a documented local exposure problem to a proposed analytical skill, rather than simply promising to “improve global health.” Use specific, verifiable examples and avoid claiming outcomes you did not measure.

Frequently asked questions

Is the award automatic?

No. Admission does not guarantee scholarship selection.

Can I apply without a medical degree?

Yes. The programme accepts graduates from different disciplines, subject to its admission requirements.

Can I submit later as a self-funded applicant?

The separate self-funded deadline is 24 March 2027 at 13:00 CET. It does not extend the scholarship deadline.

Does one English requirement cover every pathway?

No. Check the exact language combination, accepted test, score and validity period for your choices.
