EUI Jean Monnet Fellowships 2027–2028 | €2,850/Month

Funding and benefits

• €2,850 basic monthly grant for the 12-month fellowship. If a fellow receives another grant or salary, EUI may reduce the amount to a minimum of €2,100 per month.
• €650 for eligible research expenses, including conference attendance.
• Up to €1,200 travel reimbursement for the incoming and outgoing journey, using eligible rail, car-equivalent or economy airfare costs.
• Up to €250 for eligible visa-related costs for fellows who need an Italian visa.
• A household allowance of up to €310 per month where the official income and residence conditions are met.
• A €210 monthly allowance for each eligible dependent child living with the fellow in Florence.
• Research affiliation, facilities and academic participation at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies.

Eligibility

• Candidates of every nationality are eligible.
• For the 2027–2028 cycle, the doctorate must have been awarded before 1 September 2022, more than five years before the fellowship starts.
• The programme is intended for postdoctoral researchers, tenure-track academics and scholars seeking a sabbatical at the Robert Schuman Centre.
• The proposed research should fit one of the Centre’s research themes, programmes or projects.
• Fellows must live in the Florence area and participate actively in the Centre’s academic life.
• Applicants cannot apply simultaneously for both the Jean Monnet and Max Weber Fellowships.

Required documents

• Curriculum vitae with a list of publications, in PDF.
• Letter of motivation of one to two pages, in PDF.
• Research proposal of two to four pages, in PDF.
• Copy of passport, in JPG format.
• Names and contact details of two academic referees.
• Two reference letters uploaded directly by the referees by the deadline.

Files should use standard international fonts and must not contain macros, special characters or password protection. EUI’s official call does not list an IELTS, TOEFL or other standardized English-test requirement.

How to apply

1. Read the programme description and confirm that the PhD award date and research fit meet the official criteria.
2. Open the official EUI online application form and register an account.
3. Enter personal information and referee details early so EUI can invite referees to upload their letters.
4. Complete the online form and upload the CV, motivation letter, research proposal and passport copy.
5. Confirm that both academic references are submitted directly through the system.
6. Review the complete file and submit it by 23 October 2026 at 14:00 CEST.

Selection notes

Academic staff at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies select candidates, and nominations require approval by the EUI Executive Committee. The decision is final and EUI does not provide individual feedback on unsuccessful research proposals.

The programme description says fellows are selected on the strength of the research proposal and CV, and the proposed project should align with the Centre’s research themes, programmes or projects. Up to 20 fellowships are offered annually.
