What does the Oxford-Pershing Square Scholarship cover?

The scholarship covers the course fees in full for both years of the Oxford 1+1 MBA pathway: the selected master’s degree and the MBA. It also provides a living-cost grant of at least £21,805 for each year of study. Scholars additionally gain access to programme activities such as conferences, community events and mentoring opportunities, although individual activities can change from year to year.

Who is eligible?

Oxford considers candidates in a stated order of priority. First priority goes to new applicants to the Oxford 1+1 MBA who are admitted to both an eligible partner master’s programme and the MBA. Second priority can include applicants admitted to a full-time one-year Oxford master’s that is not currently on the formal 1+1 partner list, provided they also secure MBA admission through a separate application. A third priority group covers current Oxford master’s students who are admitted to the MBA and were not considered for the scholarship in the previous year.

Being on an MBA waiting list is not sufficient for scholarship consideration. Applicants need admission to both relevant programmes before they can be considered.

What does Oxford look for?

  • Strong academic achievement, including degree results and relevant test performance;
  • leadership potential demonstrated through experience and motivation;
  • strong personal character, integrity and commitment;
  • a clear intention to address large-scale social challenges;
  • the ability to design scalable and sustainable solutions; and
  • a convincing explanation of how the Oxford 1+1 MBA will help achieve those goals.

These criteria should be visible throughout the 1+1 MBA application, scholarship essay and interview responses rather than appearing only in one section.

Documents and application requirements

The Oxford MBA application currently requires a completed online application, full academic transcripts, a one-page CV, GMAT or GRE results, two professional or academic references, a supporting statement, an online assessment and English-language evidence where required. The MBA application fee is £75. The partner master’s programme has its own separate academic requirements and document checklist.

Applicants to the 1+1 MBA also answer a separate essay of up to 250 words explaining why the combined programme is particularly beneficial and how it fits their career and personal-development goals.

Pershing Square scholarship essay

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must upload an additional essay in the Funding section of the 1+1 MBA application. Oxford currently asks applicants, in no more than 500 words, to explain how they intend to change the world and what that ambition says about them as a person.

The essay should connect the applicant’s intended impact with evidence of leadership, academic ability, character and a realistic path toward scalable, sustainable solutions.
