King–Morgridge Scholarship 2027 | Full Undergraduate Funding at UW–Madison
The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s King–Morgridge Scholars Program funds four years of undergraduate study for selected students committed to poverty alleviation. Who is eligible
Applicants must be first-year bachelor’s candidates with no previous tertiary education at another institution, demonstrate substantial financial need, and show commitment to poverty alleviation and community development. They must plan to return to their home country or region after graduation. The qualifying secondary-school credential must be from a listed country in Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, South Asia or Southeast Asia. Graduation must have been on or after 1 November 2023, or expected before 1 August 2027. Eligibility is based on the location of the secondary credential and the official country list; it is not a scholarship for every international student.
Funding and competition
UW–Madison states that the eight-semester award includes tuition and fees, room and board, health insurance, airfare and a stipend for miscellaneous expenses. It selects roughly six scholars per year. It does not state a single cash value applicable to every recipient; avoid treating this as an automatic award for admitted students.
Two applications and two deadlines
- Apply to UW–Madison as a first-year student using the Early Action route by 1 November 2026 and complete the required admission materials.
- After the university sends your Campus ID, activate your NetID.
- Sign in to the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH), answer the general questions and locate the King–Morgridge Scholars Program opportunity.
- Submit its short-answer questions and 500–700-word essay by 15 November 2026. Check the portal for its exact cutoff time.
- Only applicants admitted in the Early Action review period can receive the scholarship; scholarship decisions are expected by the end of March.
Essay integrity: the scholarship’s own application says it expects your personal voice and prohibits substantially AI-created or AI-rewritten application work. Read that policy before preparing your submission.
Documents and language
The admissions application has its own transcript, country-specific and English proficiency requirements; use the international admissions page for your situation. The scholarship form has separate short answers and an essay. UW–Madison has not stated a universal no-IELTS rule for this award. Both applications are required; the scholarship page says late applications are not accepted.
