What does Wellesley financial aid cover?
Wellesley says it meets 100% of calculated financial need for every admitted international citizen who applied for aid during the admission process. The college’s cost-of-attendance calculation includes tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies and other educational costs. Travel to and from Wellesley is not included.
This is need-based aid, not a guaranteed merit scholarship. International admission is need-aware, awards are limited, and competition is high. You must request aid when applying for admission; an international student admitted without aid cannot apply for Wellesley aid later.
Eligibility
- Apply as a first-year undergraduate for fall 2027.

English and standardized testing
SAT and ACT scores are optional for fall 2027 applicants. Wellesley does not require an English-proficiency exam. However, if English is not your native language and you have studied in an English-based curriculum for fewer than four years, it strongly recommends TOEFL, Duolingo English Test, IELTS, an accepted Cambridge English qualification, InitialView or Vericant.

Frequently asked questions
Is Wellesley need-blind for international students?
No. Wellesley is need-aware for applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and international aid is available to a limited number of students.
Is Wellesley financial aid fully funded?
For an admitted international applicant who requested aid during admission, Wellesley says it funds 100% of the student’s calculated need. The calculation does not include travel, and the award amount depends on the family’s assessed circumstances.
Is there an application fee?
No. Wellesley states that applying is free.
Do I need IELTS or TOEFL?
No English-proficiency exam is required. One is strongly recommended when English is not your native language and you have spent fewer than four years in an English-based curriculum.
Should I submit the CSS Profile immediately?
Complete the Financial Aid Intent Form first. Wellesley encourages applicants to prepare the CSS Profile but says not to submit it unless staff request it.
