UA’s 2027 out-of-state and international freshman programme combines automatic merit scholarships with competitive awards. The admission application automatically serves as the application for all automatic merit scholarships and many competitive scholarships. Admitted students may also see additional opportunities in the Alabama Scholarship Award Manager (ASAM).

What does Presidential Elite cover?
An applicant with a 4.0+ GPA and a 36 ACT or 1600 SAT is selected as a Presidential Elite Scholar. The official package includes:
- Value of tuition for up to four years or eight semesters for degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate or law study;
- First year of on-campus housing at the regular room rate;
- US$1,500 per year supplemental scholarship for four years; and
- A one-time US$2,000 research or international-study allowance after completing one year at UA.
This is a generous tuition-plus package, but applicants should not assume it covers every personal, travel, insurance, food or miscellaneous expense.

Eligibility requirements
- Apply as a first-time, main-campus freshman for 2027 entry.
- Be an out-of-state U.S. applicant or an international applicant.
- Hold at least a 3.50 high-school GPA for the published automatic-merit tiers.
- Submit an official qualifying ACT or SAT score for automatic merit consideration.
- Meet UA admission and English-proficiency requirements applicable to your academic background.
- Submit all required application materials by the relevant priority deadline.
Students without a test score can still be considered for competitive scholarships, which use a holistic review. Automatic merit scholarships require a standardized-test score.
Documents and application fee
Applicants should prepare the online admission application, academic records or transcripts, and any required English-proficiency evidence. Test scores must be sent officially for automatic scholarship eligibility. The international undergraduate application fee is US$50. Individual circumstances may require additional records, so applicants should follow the checklist in their UA application portal.
English-language requirements
International applicants must satisfy UA’s English-proficiency policy. Accepted evidence and score thresholds depend on the applicant’s education and the university’s current admissions rules. Check the official international freshman page before submitting; do not assume that an ACT or SAT scholarship score automatically replaces an English-language requirement.

Important deadline
The Summer/Fall 2027 priority scholarship deadline is 4 December 2026. UA advises students to submit all admission materials at least two weeks earlier so they can be reviewed and, after admission, access any additional ASAM applications. The university’s public pages do not state a cutoff time or time zone, so applicants should submit early rather than assume end-of-day acceptance.
Frequently asked questions
Are University of Alabama scholarships open to international students?
Yes. The official 2027 scholarship table applies equally to out-of-state and international first-year students.
Is there a separate automatic scholarship application?
No. The undergraduate admission application includes consideration for automatic merit scholarships and many competitive scholarships. Some additional opportunities require a separate ASAM submission after admission.
Can I receive a scholarship without ACT or SAT scores?
You may be considered for competitive scholarships without a test score. A qualifying official ACT or SAT score is required for the published automatic merit awards.
Is Presidential Elite a full-ride scholarship?
It covers tuition, first-year on-campus housing and specified stipends, but the official package does not say it pays every cost of attendance. Applicants should budget for uncovered expenses.
Does UA accept superscores for scholarships?
No. UA states that it uses an official composite ACT or total SAT score from one test date for automatic merit scholarships.
