What does the Gabelli Presidential Scholarship cover?
Boston College describes the Gabelli Presidential Scholars Program as a four-year, full-tuition scholarship. The programme also includes fully funded summer programmes sponsored by GPSP. These summer experiences are part of the scholars’ academic and leadership development.
Important funding note: the official scholarship information confirms full tuition, but it does not say that normal academic-year housing, meals, health insurance, travel or personal expenses are covered. Applicants should plan separately for costs beyond tuition and review Boston College’s current cost-of-attendance information before applying.
Who can apply?
Both Early Decision and Regular Decision candidates may receive scholarship consideration if they submit their Boston College application by the scholarship priority deadline. International applicants are eligible to apply to Boston College and are considered under the same merit-scholarship process. Only students seeking fall first-year admission are considered.
Applicants should present an outstanding academic record, strong intellectual ability, meaningful leadership and sustained contribution to their communities. The programme is highly selective: only 18 incoming first-year students receive the award each year.
International applicant requirements
- Apply as a first-year student to one of Boston College’s undergraduate divisions.
- Submit the Common Application and Boston College writing supplement.
- Provide an official secondary-school transcript.
- Arrange the School Report and counsellor recommendation.
- Submit two teacher evaluations.
- Meet Boston College’s English-proficiency requirement unless an official waiver condition applies.

English-language tests
Boston College is test optional for the SAT and ACT, including for international applicants. English-proficiency testing is a separate requirement. International applicants generally submit an official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo English Test result unless they qualify for a waiver.
The university recommends minimum results of IELTS 7.5, Duolingo English Test 130, or TOEFL iBT 100 on the previous scale / 5.0 on the new scale. Boston College lists waiver routes for native English speakers, qualifying applicants who studied for at least three years in an eligible English-language high-school setting, or applicants meeting its specified SAT EBRW or ACT English threshold.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Gabelli Presidential Scholarship fully funded?
It is a full-tuition scholarship and includes fully funded GPSP-sponsored summer programmes. The official page does not state that regular housing, meals and all other attendance expenses are covered, so it should not be described as a complete full-ride award.
Can international students apply?
Yes. International first-year applicants can be considered if they meet Boston College’s admission and English-proficiency requirements and submit their application by the scholarship deadline.
Is there a separate scholarship application?
No. Boston College explicitly says no additional scholarship materials are required. A complete admission application submitted by 1 November is used for consideration.
Can Regular Decision applicants receive the award?
Yes. Both Early Decision and Regular Decision candidates are eligible, but every scholarship candidate must meet the earlier 1 November priority date.
Are SAT or ACT scores required?
No. Boston College is test optional. International applicants may still need an approved English-proficiency result unless they qualify for a waiver.
