Macquarie University’s 2027 International Scholarship Round covers the International Research Training Program (iRTP) and International Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship (iMQRES) for eligible international Master of Research and PhD applicants.

Overview
The 2027 International Scholarship Round is for international applicants seeking the iRTP or iMQRES for Session 1, 2027. Applicants for the iRTP are automatically considered for the university-funded iMQRES in the same round. Selection is competitive and considers academic merit, research output or experience, research potential and the research environment.
Financial Benefits
- 2027 stipend rate: AUD 40,900 per year.
- Successful PhD iRTP recipients receive a tuition fee offset for up to three years and a living allowance stipend for up to three years.
- Successful PhD iRTP recipients also receive a travel concession applied to their local transport OPAL card.
- Successful PhD iMQRES recipients receive a tuition fee offset for up to three years and a living allowance stipend for up to three years.

Eligibility
- Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and not an Australian permanent resident.
- Intend to reside in Sydney during candidature.
- Plan to undertake a full-time Master of Research or Doctor of Philosophy in Session 1, 2027.
- Meet Macquarie University admission and English-language requirements.
- Hold a valid visa enabling onshore commencement in Session 1, 2027.
- Have completed the qualifying degree by the required stage, subject to the limited exceptions stated by Macquarie University.
- Have confirmation of supervision where required by the relevant faculty.
Application Evidence
Applicants should provide the graduate research admission and scholarship material needed to establish their academic and research qualifications. Macquarie may consider research degrees, substantial research components, peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations and highly relevant research experience.

- Confirm that you meet the admission and scholarship requirements for the 2027 International Scholarship Round.
- Prepare your graduate research admission and scholarship documentation.
- Secure confirmation of supervision where required.
- Submit the Macquarie graduate research application and select International Research Scholarship as the scholarship type.
- Submit before the official closing time; incomplete applications are withdrawn.
Important Deadline
Applications opened on 15 June 2026 and closed on 31 July 2026 at 11pm. The Session 1, 2027 International Scholarship Round is therefore closed.
Macquarie states that outcomes are expected in early October 2026. If no outcome notification is received by 15 November 2026, applicants should consider the application unsuccessful.
